Challenge
Old School Station (OSS) came to us with a clear mandate: their website didn’t capture the authentic 90s gaming vibe they offered. Loaded with 10,000 retro titles from the ’80s and ’90s, OSS needed a site that immediately transported visitors back to the arcade era and kept them engaged long enough to convert. The existing site felt generic and failed to resonate with gamers craving nostalgia.
Approach
We set out to rebuild OSS’s online home as a full-blown portal to the ’90s. From the moment users land, the new design should immerse them in retro gaming culture: animated pixel art backgrounds, interactive “boot-up” sequences, and intuitive navigation styled like classic console menus. Where every page transition echoes the thrill of powering on an old-school console, turning browsing into an experience rather than a chore.
Thought Process
To rekindle that arcade magic, we adopted a bold, vibrant palette – red, blue, and yellow –directly inspired by iconic cabinets. We paired it with chunky, pixelated fonts and bespoke UI elements (think joystick cursors and 8‑bit button hovers). Behind the scenes, the site’s structure was optimised for speed and mobile performance, ensuring no lag in the action. We also commissioned a dedicated product photoshoot, embedding stylised hero shots into the layout so that every game cartridge and controller image felt like part of a curated retro collection.
Result
The revamped OSS website now flawlessly embodies the spirit of classic gaming. Engagement metrics soared, average session duration doubled, bounce rates halved, and click‑throughs to purchase increased by 75%. Gamers immediately recognised OSS as the ultimate destination for reliving their favourite ’90s titles, cementing the console’s online presence and driving a significant uplift in conversions.
